History The Sundial
In 1924 a committee of The Order of the Golden Suns was chosen as the editorial board for the Rail Splitter,
a Lincoln Boy Scout Council publication.
The first issue of the “Oshkosh” was published in January 1937. The credit for this issued goes to Glenn Feather,
who was Alumni secretary of the Order at the time. William G. Holister suggested the name of the publication.
During the following summer a search for a name for the Order’s new bulletin was conducted. In December 1937 the
first issue of The Sundial was published. Willis V Elliot who also designed the first heading suggested
the name. The Order officially adopted the name “The Sundial” at the winter Pow-Wow. Glenn Feather designed the
heading for the next issue.
The name “The Sundial” is still used today.
