    National OA Service Grant Project

One of the four fold purposes of the Order of the Arrow is "to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others." It is with this spirit of cheerful service to others that the Order of the Arrow proudly offers the matching service grant program.

For several years, the National Order of the Arrow Committee has provided matching service award grants for a limited number of projects submitted by application to the national office. Matching grant money is given to lodges for camp or service center projects in their local councils. The Order provides up to one-half of the money for a service project, with a $5,000 maximum amount granted for any lodge project.

The Golden Sun Lodge is proud to be the recipient of a 2007 National OA Service Grant, the first time received in the Lodge’s history. We have received a $5,000 National OA Service Grant to renovate the existing Ponca campsite at Camp Cornhusker.

The Ponca campsite will be improved by adding a new shelter, new concrete pad tent sites along with tent frames and new tents, and concrete pathways connecting the various patrol sites throughout the campsite with the central shelters. Not only will the campsite be vastly improved for all campers, but the project is being done in a way that will increase accessibility and mobility for physically challenged Scouts and campers that use the campsite.

In the early part of the summer, the lodge will conduct a fund-raising campaign to raise $5,000, providing our portion of the matching grant. Units, individuals, and businesses will be solicited and can contribute to the project to help the lodge raise the matching funds for the project.

In mid-summer (after summer camp is over) the lodge will move in and do the construction portion of the project, targeting completion prior to September. This will allow the campsite to be put to use in the Summer of 2008.

Within the lodge, the project is being planned and executed through the leadership of several key youth chairman under the guidance of adult advisers. Arrowman from the lodge will provide over 80% of the labor for construction.

Please help us accomplish this very worthy project by donating to our cause, and by encouraging Arrowmen in your unit to help with the construction in early August.
