Lodge Officer Duties and Responsibilities

Each elected officer of the lodge has a specific responsibility and duty to the lodge.
The following outlines those responsibilities and duties.
Lodge Chief
- Elected by the youth membership of the Lodge.
- Responsible for adherence to the program and policies of the lodge.
- Serves as a member of the Council Executive Board.
- Works closely with the lodge Adviser, seeking advice and training. He does not wait for his adviser to call, but calls the adviser often.
- Attends and conducts all lodge executive committee meetings.
- Appoints chairmen of the lodge operating committees with the Lodge Adviser’s approval.
- Approves lodge members to operating committees that are appointed by the committee chairman.
- Reminds lodge officers and committee chairmen of lodge to attend meetings, by using the US Mail, e-mail or telephone.
- Presides over all meetings of the lodge executive committee.
- Responsible for planning and conducting lodge activities.
- Delegates his duties to fellow lodge officers and committee chairmen.
- Sees that the chapter program gives complete support to the lodge program.
- Undertakes lodge services projects with the advice and approval of the lodge adviser.
- Appoints the Vigil Honor nominating committee.
- Promotes the correct wearing of the Scout uniform by personal example and special lodge education programs.
- Works with the adviser in providing his lodge officers and chairmen with unit contact information.
- Appoints a Camp Chief if he is not at camp, appointment will be with the lodge adviser’s approval.
Lodge Vice-Chief
- Assists the lodge chief, as directed by him, to carry out operation of the lodge.
- Coordinates administrative functions and facilities request between the chapters and the lodge.
- Assures that all four lodge events, Section Conclaves and National OA
Conferences are promoted in the lodge and chapters.
- Assumes other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the lodge chief.
- Assumes responsibilities of the lodge chief in the event the lodge chief resigns or is unable to fulfill his term of office, until a successor is elected for the unexpired term.
- Serves as an example of the ideals of the BSA and the Order of the Arrow.
- Attends all lodge training and events. Attends National and Section events.
Lodge Secretary
- Assists the lodge chief in communication with members of the lodge. Provides written notification of all lodge executive meetings (LEC) at least 5 days prior to the meeting.
- Records the minutes of all LEC meetings. Duplicates and distributes copies of all meetings to the LEC members.
- Maintains an up-to-date roster of names, addresses, E-mail and telephone numbers of all lodge members. The distribution of the monthly up dated roster will be: Lodge Chief, Lodge Adviser and Lodge Staff Adviser. The two membership rosters shall be 1. District Chapter rosters 2. Lodge Executive Committee roster.
- Promotes lodge participation in sectional and national events.
- Serves as an example of the ideals of the BSA and the Order of the Arrow.
- Attends all LEC meetings and lodge events.
Lodge Treasurer
- Assists the lodge chief in accurate accounting and reporting of all lodge funds.
- Prepares a financial report prior to LEC meetings. Duplicates and distributes copies of the report to the LEC members.
- Works with the lodge adviser and or council office in keeping our financial records up to date. Prepares an annual budget statement prior to LEC meeting.
- Promotes lodge participation in sectional and national events.
- Serves as an example of the ideals of the BSA and the Order of the Arrow.
- Attends all LEC meetings and lodge events.
- In the event that there is a Deputy Treasurer, he will take the place of the Lodge Treasurer in the event that the Lodge Treasurer doesn’t complete his duties. The Lodge Treasurer will work with the Deputy Treasurer, keeping him informed and up-to-date at all times.
